Dawn Olivieri, who played Sarah Atwood, Jamie Dutton’s girlfriend, on Yellowstone, recently shared insights into her surprising exit from the show. In the latest episode, her character was killed off, and she learned about it when she received the script for that episode. Olivieri explained that it wasn’t unusual for her to play a character who meets a dramatic end, as her role in 1883, the Yellowstone prequel, also involved her character, Claire Dutton, dying.
Interestingly, Olivieri mentioned that although she didn’t know her character would become the villain responsible for putting a hit on John Dutton (Kevin Costner’s character), she was aware that her storyline would eventually come to an end. However, she believed her character would last longer in the series, possibly into the next season. Due to the show’s accelerated pace in wrapping up storylines, her exit came sooner than expected.
Despite the unexpected nature of her departure, Olivieri seemed to embrace the change, noting that working with creator Taylor Sheridan had been a rewarding experience. She even expressed gratitude for the “monumental role” her character played, adding that it would go down in history for how it all played out.
As for Kevin Costner’s reaction to John Dutton’s fate, that remains to be revealed, but given the intense drama surrounding the show’s latest developments, it’s clear that the Yellowstone storyline is moving full throttle toward an exciting conclusion.
