Auliʻi Cravalho, best known as the voice of Moana, recently shared how her life has transformed since the success of the 2016 Disney animated film. The 24-year-old actress reflected on her journey from humble beginnings to being able to give back to her family in a profound way.

Raised by her mother, Puanani, on food stamps in Hawaii, Auliʻi lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Mililani at the time of her casting in Moana. She described her mother’s sacrifices, saying, “She gave me everything.” With her newfound success, Auliʻi has been able to make a life-changing gesture:

“I bought my mommy a house. She’s happily retired.”

Despite her parents divorcing when she was young, Auliʻi maintains a close relationship with both, noting their shared hard work running a construction company. She expressed gratitude for their sacrifices, saying,

“Your parents give you so much. Kids feel a little indebted, I’m going to be honest! But we feel so grateful for our parents’ sacrifices.”

The sequel to Moana has already begun to break records globally, further solidifying Auliʻi’s legacy in the Disney family.
