After this summer’s Euro 2024 finals, Austria’s national team coach Ralf Rangnick has stated he will stay in his current position rather than taking over Bayern Munich the following season.
Last week, Rangnick verified that Bayern and the German media had been in communication regarding the departure of Thomas Tuchel’s replacement.
However, he declared, “I am the coach of the Austrian national team and I love it.” I’m really enjoying this task, and I’m determined to keep going in the direction we’ve started.
“I want to be very clear that this is a decision for my squad and our shared aims, not a rejection of Bayern Munich.
“Our entire attention is on the Euro. We’ll exert every effort to advance.
The 65-year-old Rangnick, who has coached RB Leipzig and Manchester United among others, appeared to be the leading choice for the Bavarians following the announcement that Julian Nagelsmann would also be sticking with the German national side.
With five games remaining in the season last month, Bayer Leverkusen secured their first-ever league title, denying Bayern, who had won the previous eleven league titles, the Bundesliga trophy this season.
In the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, they drew 2-2 at home against Real Madrid on Tuesday; however, Tuchel will depart at the end of the season, regardless of their success in Europe.
On June 17, Austria will play their opening Group D match against France. The competition is being held in Germany. Austria will also play Poland and the Netherlands.
