Chelsea Football Club
Chelsea Football Club has announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. Maresca, aged 44, joins Chelsea from Leicester City, where he led the team back to the Premier League by clinching the Championship title.
Inking a five-year deal with an option for a further 12 months, Maresca emerged as Chelsea’s top pick from a competitive shortlist that included names like Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, and Roberto De Zerbi, who recently departed Brighton.
Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, expressed their enthusiasm about Maresca’s appointment, emphasizing his proven track record and exciting coaching style. They stated, “Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We thoroughly look forward to working with him.”
“In response, Maresca shared his excitement about joining Chelsea, describing it as a dream opportunity for any coach. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with the talented players and staff at the club to uphold its legacy of success and bring pride to the fans”.
Reports suggest that Chelsea facilitated Maresca’s move by paying a fee estimated to be between £8m and £10m to release him from his Leicester contract.
The appointment of Maresca reflects Chelsea’s commitment to securing top talent and building a team poised for future triumphs in the competitive landscape of English football.
