Moana 2 has made an explosive debut at the box office, breaking numerous records during its opening weekend. With a domestic 5-day debut of $221 million, the film has set the record for the biggest 5-day opening of all time, as well as for the biggest Thanksgiving debut (both 3-day and 5-day), the biggest Thanksgiving day, and the biggest Black Friday ever.
The movie, which reunites Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne Johnson) for a new adventure, also made $165 million internationally, bringing its global total to $386 million, making it the second-largest global debut of 2024.
Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman expressed excitement over the success, noting that Moana 2 surpassed their expectations and is a testament to the enduring popularity of the franchise. The film also boasts great new music and the hard work of Disney Animation’s creative team.

- The largest 5-day opening of all-time, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($204.6M).
- The biggest Thanksgiving weekend of all-time, with $221M for the 5-day period.
- Highest ever Black Friday box office with $54.5M.
- The highest animated opening weekend of all-time in France and record-breaking numbers across many other countries.
This marks Disney’s third movie in 2024 to surpass $150 million in its opening weekend, joining Deadpool & Wolverine ($211M) and Inside Out 2 ($155M).
