Kit Harington is speaking out about two topics that might interest fans: the ever-controversial ending of Game of Thrones and his brief stint in the Marvel universe with 2021′s Eternals.
The 37-year-old actor was asked about the final season of the show and if he found any fault in the writing. After the final season aired, millions signed a petition to try and remake the season amid the controversial ending.

About the final season, Kit told GQ, “I think if there was any fault with the end of Thrones, is that we were all so f-king tired, we couldn’t have gone on longer. And so I understand some people thought it was rushed and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was any alternative. I look at pictures of me in that final season and I look exhausted. I look spent. I didn’t have another season in me.”
He was then asked about the backlash to the final episode, specifically. He said, “Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think there were mistakes made, story-wise, towards the end maybe. I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work.”
On the Jon Snow spinoff that ended up getting canned, he wouldn’t share details on the story that was proposed.
“I don’t really want to say because it starts a whole thing,” he said.
He added, “What I can tell you is it was HBO that came to me and said, ‘Would you consider this?’ My first reaction was no. And then I thought there could be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I felt that there might be something left to say and a story left to tell in a pretty limited way. We spent a couple of years back and forth developing it. And it just didn’t… nothing got us excited enough. In the end, I kind of backed out and said, ‘I think if we push this any further and keep developing it we could end up with something that’s not good. And that’s the last thing we all want.’”
He also briefly touched on his role in 2021′s Eternals for Marvel. Kit portrayed Dane Whitman in an appearance that was supposed to set him up to play the Black Knight.
A sequel to the Eternals never materialized after the poor reception to the film.
About his character, Kit shared, “I’m not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting. If Marvel calls, you gotta do it.” He did say he “would be interested to return” if Marvel decided to move forward with another iteration of the character.
