Pochettino’s admits he could quit
Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he might leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
His tenure at Stamford Bridge has been marked by both highs and lows. While his young team has shown flashes of brilliance, they have also been frustratingly inconsistent. Despite reaching the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup semi-final, Chelsea’s overall performance has been up and down.
However, recent improved form has seen Chelsea climb up the table, overtaking Manchester United and currently sitting in seventh place. Despite this, speculation about Pochettino’s future at the club continues to swirl.
During a recent press conference ahead of Chelsea’s match against Nottingham Forest, Pochettino addressed questions about his future. He made it clear that the decision about his future would not solely be in the hands of Chelsea’s owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, or the club’s co-sporting directors.
Pochettino openly admitted that he might choose to leave the job at the end of the season, even if Boehly and company decided to retain him. He emphasized that the happiness of both parties, himself and the club, would be crucial in making a decision.
“It’s not just about whether the owners or the sporting directors are happy. If we are happy, you need to ask us because maybe we are unhappy and we want to part ways. It won’t always be the coaching staff deciding not to continue. It’s a two-way decision.”
“At the end of the day, it’s usually the owners or the sporting directors. They can say tomorrow, maybe I can say ‘I want to leave.’ It’s both sides making a decision.”
“Because if Chelsea is unhappy, it’s the owners or the sporting directors. Maybe we are unhappy because we came here with certain expectations, and it hasn’t happened as we expected. I’m not saying I’m unhappy, but it’s always one side, and maybe we need to look at the other side.”
