Police Say Hannah Kobayashi, a Missing Hawaii Woman, Traveled to Mexico

New developments have emerged in the case of missing person Hannah Kobayashi. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recently revealed that surveillance footage from U.S. Customs and Border Protection shows Hannah crossing the U.S.-Mexico border alone on foot, carrying her luggage. This footage suggests that her departure was voluntary, and the LAPD has now classified her case as a “voluntary missing person.”

Hannah had been reported missing after failing to board a connecting flight from LAX to New York. It was later discovered that she missed the flight intentionally. Authorities also learned that her father, who had traveled from Hawaii to LAX to search for her, was found dead from an apparent suicide after falling from a parking structure.

The LAPD investigation has not found evidence of foul play or trafficking, and there is no indication that Hannah is involved in criminal activity. Prior to leaving Hawaii, she had expressed a desire to disconnect from modern technology. The LAPD has concluded its investigation within the U.S., but if Hannah returns to the U.S., law enforcement will be notified.

The case remains open, and police are urging Hannah to contact her family, law enforcement, or the U.S. Embassy to confirm that she is safe.
