Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, believes that “stupid rumours” regarding his future must stop, although he acknowledges that he and his staff are unsure about their futures at the team.
When Pochettino, 52, was appointed last May, he agreed to a two-year contract with the possibility of one more year.
But Chelsea’s season has been uneven, and their manager has had to contend with a youthful team and several injuries to important players.
Since the Clearlake ownership group took over the club in May 2022, Chelsea has made significant expenditure purchases in three of the last four transfer windows, spending more than £1 billion on new players.
Pochettino still has a chance to fulfill the Blues hierarchy’s goal of playing European football at Stamford Bridge the following season.
The club’s upper management is also aware that the manager’s limited usage of his entire roster this season due to injury issues is understood.
“I wanted to say that it is enough with this type of rumours, that if I have one year more [under] contract here and no-one says nothing [to me], [I] suppose I’m going to be here,” said Pochettino.
“Only if, at that point, the season is over and I hear someone bid me farewell… because at this time, we are unsure. I assume that I will be staying here for the remaining year of my contract. Ignore the foolish rumors now.
“You should speak with the club to find out if they want me to continue, rather than writing meaningless things.”
