Wayne Northrop, beloved for his memorable roles in iconic TV shows like Days of Our Lives and Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 77. His publicist confirmed that the actor died on Friday, November 29, after a six-year battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
His wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop (General Hospital), shared a heartfelt statement:
“Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family. We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”
Wayne made a significant impact on daytime television, originating the role of Roman Brady on NBC’s Days of Our Lives from 1981 to 1984, and reprising the role from 1991 to 1994. In 2005, he returned to the show as Dr. Alex North, a complex storyline woven from his earlier portrayal of Roman. He also starred as Michael Culhane in ABC’s Dynasty and played Rex Stanton on Port Charles. His other TV credits include L.A. Law, Cold Case, and Hotel.
Wayne’s passing follows the recent death of his Days of Our Lives co-star Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black, a character with a deeply intertwined history with Northrop’s Roman.
