Trump Trial: Closing Arguments Commence in Criminal Trial

After six weeks and over 20 witnesses, the criminal trial of Donald Trump is nearing its conclusion as lawyers on both sides deliver their closing arguments Tuesday.

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass began his presentation, defending the credibility of key witness Michael Cohen. He emphasized that Cohen’s testimony aligns with evidence presented, including text messages and phone records, urging jurors to disregard attacks from Trump’s defense.

Lead attorney Todd Blanche, representing Trump, countered by asserting Trump’s innocence and questioning Cohen’s reliability, labeling him as the “greatest liar of all time.”

Trump faces charges related to a scheme to falsify records to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, allegedly orchestrated to evade election laws. Despite the accusations, Trump maintains his plea of not guilty.

The defense argued that the payment records were accurate and criticized the prosecution’s failure to substantiate their case. Blanche dismissed Cohen’s claims as “absurd.”

Following the summations, the judge will provide instructions to the jury, and deliberations are expected to commence, likely starting Wednesday.
